Overview

With the recent devastation and destruction experienced in the Metropolis of Atlanta from natural disasters, we are thankful for the disaster relief assistance offered by our faithful and their generous response to those in need. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios and his co-workers believe that we must organize ourselves on a permanent basis in order to respond quickly and efficiently to our brothers and sisters who suffer from hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Our vision is to assist at the beginning of a natural disaster rather than arriving later. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios has appointed a permanent Metropolis of Atlanta Disaster Relief Committee Chairman, Ms. Dee Nicolaou, who has gained extensive experience and knowledge from her past service as Metropolis of Atlanta Philoptochos President and as our National Philoptochos Board's Disaster Relief Chairman.

Dee is committed to offering leadership direction to our parishes with respect to preparedness, organization, and training in anticipation of potential natural disasters. Likewise, she is committed to assisting Metropolitan Alexios and our Holy Metropolis with disaster relief efforts when a disaster is underway. Dee and her committee seek to offer aid, compassion, ministry, dignity, and hope to those in our Holy Metropolis during a natural crisis; and to assist our most vulnerable brethren secure food, shelter, and safety during natural disasters through the utilization of existing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) resources, coupled with local, municipal, and Philoptochos (National, Metropolis, and Parish) efforts.

Dee has undergone extensive training and development from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's disaster classes that enable her to work with volunteers from our Metropolis Philoptochos Board, Philoptochos Chapters, Parish Clergy, and Parish Councils throughout the Metropolis of Atlanta to implement this important and essential ministry.
